Re: Cambridge

I was also at the Cambridge gig, my only one of this tour. I loved the 2 set format, shame it can't always be like this. The first set, what with all the epics played, was a treat ! Hallow, Raven, Genetix, Baroque, Sewer......, what more could you want. My only complaint - trying to get to the toile...

Cambridge - spare ticket available

If anybody is looking for a ticket for tonight's gig I have a spare and can meet you outside the venue at 7pm.
Cheers

Re: SLF 2024 Tour

I've only seen them once in 2022 at the Stone Valley festival. They're ok..I never really got into their material but a good live band to see from that era..

Re: The Interval

I once went to a Hugh Cornwell gig in my nearest local town. It was in 2009, part of his hoover damn tour with Caz. It was all seated with maybe 20 or 30 people attending. Obviously no atmosphere at all. They did their usual play the whole of Hooverdam, then an interval followed by Stranglers songs....

Re: 50th Anniversary Setlist?

I think the fact that you label JJ as "a bassist who occasionally wrote and sang" is revealing. I'm unsure which part you think is incorrect. Is JJ a bassist? Yes. Did he occasionally write? Yes. Did he occasionally sing? Also yes. Anyway, enough. Objectively, you troll this board. Again,...

Re: 50th Anniversary Setlist?

I don't know if anyone else feels like me about it all. But for me where once I would've travelled around to see them multiple times on any tour, now on this one I'm just going to one gig. (Although it does look like I'll be seeing them again at the Stone Valley, as they have recently been added to ...

Re: 50th Anniversary Setlist?

Genetix, compare the pair https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79DVkVEghHE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNZP8Hdqa14 The 50th version, compared to the 40th. The 50th sound is poor and does not do the drums any justice, but I think Jim does a good job and Toby does not try and mimic Dave at all, there ...

Re: 50th Anniversary Setlist?

Just watched some footage of the gigs with Baz and whilst singing Golden Brown on cue goes to the front of the stage mid song and holds his hands out like the messiah of stranglers song writing egging the crowd on to adore him and cheer. I wasn't going to say anything but i have never been a fan of...

Re: 50th Anniversary Setlist?

No problem playing Genetix or any other song IMO. They play it very well, and of course it doesn't sound like Dave but it's not disrespectful to Dave in any way, if anything it's the opposite to that. So I don't see the issue. Even if you're at the gig and don't like it, well there's another 25+ son...

Re: 50th Anniversary Setlist?

Toby doing genetix? Someone said "a fitting tribute" yes the whole thing is. I mean no one thinks any different surely. A 50th anniversary of songs where the bulk of the setlist are Cornwell era songs performed as close to Hugh's original performance as they can be. Toby doing a great job...

Re: 50th Anniversary Setlist?

When I first saw the band without Dave, the very first time I saw someone else climb up to the keyboard rig it brought tears to my eyes. I couldn't enjoy the music at all. After about half an hour I started to get into it a little bit..but overall that gig wasn't a good experience for me.. But then ...

Re: 50th Anniversary Setlist?

There's some big hitters in that first set, that's for sure.
Not surprised they're mostly from MK1 Stranglers as they're just the best ones..
